GARDEN | Growing poppies from seed

I love to make things. There's something about creating, well anything, that gives me a lovely, warm glow inside. I guess it's human nature, it’s something we've done since the beginning of time. Whether it's making a comfortable home for ourselves or food to survive, as humans with very handy fingers and thumbs, created things not only to keep us alive but also to make life as comfortable and pleasurable as it can be.
For me, it’s always been baking, sewing, and various crafts. And while, these activities keep me happy and busy, there's one thing that so far has escaped me. Gardening.
As a nature-lover, the idea of owning, creating and tending to a garden is beyond joyful but actually, as a renter with no garden to call my own thus far, I suppose I’ve always thought there was no point. Until now.
I’m shaking off my can’t do, won’t do attitude and until I own my house and garden, I’m going to start dabbling in the art of all things green and gardeny. And where better place to start than at the beginning with growing plants from seed.
To supplement my love of cooking and baking, growing herbs is something I keep meaning to do. So, to start I’ve chosen lemongrass (as it can be sown during September) and somewhat randomly, just because it’s one of my favourite flowers, I’m growing poppies from seed too.

Despite what happens with the seeds, I know I’m onto a good thing. Something rather magical happens when you dig in some dirt with your bare hands and start sowing. The smell, texture and process of planting is utterly relaxing but of course, it would be. It's just you, the soil and a tiny little seed at the beginning of its journey into the world.
Come back in a week or so as I check on the progress of my seeds.
Wish me luck!
