As we all know, Christmas is different when you're all grown up.
Gone is the magical excitement of Christmas Eve, the dreams of Father Christmas coming down the chimney with goodies galore. Instead, as adults, we soak up the ambience of cosy nights in by the fire, a glass of mulled wine to hand; mince pies and the thought of a traditional roast dinner on Christmas day; the excitement we once felt as kids, we now see in the eyes of our children and nieces and nephews.
It's different but in a way, it's just as exciting.
For me, Christmas should hit all the senses: smells, sights, sounds, touch and taste. A glass of mulled wine with home-baked mince pies surrounded by the twinkling lights on the Christmas tree with classic festive tunes or carols singing in the background. You get the idea. It's these little things that make Christmas so special and so perfect for sharing with loved ones.
This afternoon, while thinking about the prospect of a small glass of mulled wine with my husband, I found myself making some glass ornaments. You know the thing, little charms that add a touch of personality and luxury to wine glasses and goblets.
My craft box is full to the brim of little things I've collected here and there - I make it my mission to never throw anything away that I think may have potential for a future craft.
And so, I used two felt snowflakes, a slither of copper wire and some miniature beads to fashion personalised glass ornaments for me and the man of the house. I stitched our initials into each felt snowflake with red thread then twisted each piece at the back to keep the bead on. Simply secure around the stem of your glass with another twist.
If you've got a house-full for Christmas dinner - and a spare few minutes (!) - why not make these for each of your guests? It's the little touches that mean the most and these took me no more than half an hour to make at the most!
